Traditional Tango Instruments

In the world of tango there are very special instruments. Each one has its own voice, its own personality, and its own way of telling stories. Some sigh, some walk slowly, some make fingers dance, and others seem to have a giant heart.
On El Bandoneón con Ruedas, the instruments aren't just instruments: they're travel companions.

The Bandoneon

The bandoneon is like a magical little box that breathes. When it opens and closes, it seems to sigh, laugh, feel moved, or tell a secret.

It came from Germany, but found its home in Argentina. In the neighborhoods, in the cafés, and in tango orchestras, the bandoneon became one of the most beloved sounds. Its voice can sound sad, cheerful, mysterious, or playful.

On our journey, the bandoneon has wheels because it doesn't want to sit still. It wants to travel the roads, meet new friends, and bring tango to kids everywhere.

The Piano

The piano is a big, elegant instrument full of black and white keys. Each key has its own sound. When fingers run across it, the piano can sound like gentle rain, hurried footsteps, or a big party.

In tango, the piano helps keep the music organized. It sets the rhythm, accompanies the other instruments, and can also create beautiful melodies.

We can picture it as a great storyteller: with one hand it walks, with the other it sings, and together they build tango's musical landscape.

The Violin

The violin is small, but it has an enormous voice. It's played with a bow that caresses its strings, and its sound can seem like a singing bird, a light laugh, or an emotion flying through the air.

In tango orchestras, the violin often sings sweet, expressive melodies. It can sound delicate, mischievous, or deeply passionate.

It's like a character dancing on tiptoe, twirling around the music and adding sparkle to every song.

The Double Bass

The double bass is the biggest of the family. It has a deep, low, round voice. It seems like a gentle giant that walks slowly and holds up all the other instruments.

In tango, the double bass keeps the pulse. It gives the music its floor, its weight, and its movement. Without it, the other instruments could lose their way.

We can picture it as a big friend who says: "Come this way, I'll keep the beat." And so, with its deep sounds, it helps the tango move forward.

National Tango
Academy

The National Tango Academy (Academia Nacional del Tango) is like a great house of Argentine musical memory.

Gabriel Mores receiving the Intermediate Generation Academic honor at the National Tango Academy

There, the history of tango is preserved, studied, and shared: its songs, its musicians, its poets, its singers, and all the artists who helped build this genre so important to Argentina.

The board of the National Tango Academy named Gabriel Mores an "Intermediate Generation Academic," an honor presented by Academy president Gabriel Soria and full Academic member Sonia Ursini.

Gabriel Mores also had the honor of signing the Academy's Golden Book, a very special book bearing the signatures of great figures and legends of tango history.

In this important place, El Bandoneón con Ruedas was officially presented, and the audience enjoyed the songs and animated videos. From now on, El Bandoneón con Ruedas will have its own space, designed specifically to bring tango, its stories, and its values to kids.

The National Tango Academy is like a kind of living museum. It's not just a place where memories of the past are kept, but also a space where tango keeps playing, keeps being taught, and keeps growing alongside new generations.

Just as a library protects books and their stories, the National Tango Academy protects a very valuable part of our musical history so that everyone can know it, enjoy it, and pass it on in the future.

The Academy hosts talks, concerts, tango dance classes, gatherings, and activities to help people get to know our music better and discover why tango is part of Argentina's cultural identity.

The Academy is waiting for you to visit and discover a world of fascinating stories. Tango is waiting for you!
